MikroBo - functionalized earmold

Hahn-Schickard presents a prototype of a functionalized earmold for the human auditory canal. The base body is additively manufactured using Digital Light Processing (DLP). The three-dimensional base body is then functionalized with silver ink using the Aerosol Jet process. After the printing process, the printed silver structures are sintered with a light-based technology within a few milliseconds, to create conductive paths. Subsequently, conductive adhesive is applied to the conductive silver structures and then a high-precision pressure sensor is mounted by an automated assembly process. With an additional membrane applied around the earmold, it can be used to measure blood pressure in the ear. With this digital process chain developed at Hahn-Schickard, the functionalized earmolds can be manufactured patient-specifically with a 5-axis printing system in batch size 1.
